Ashes form silhouette of beloved dog

Ashley Lang recently lost her beloved dog — a 12-year-old Golden Retriever named Wagner.

Lang had Wagner cremated.

When a friend took a photo of Lang spreading Wagner’s ashes, the picture showed the billowing ashes forming the silhouette of a dog.

Lang told CBS Chicago: “It’s pretty remarkable…the tail and the legs and he looks like he’s, you know, leaping to go up. Everyone keeps calling him the angel dog.”

Ashley said she believes it was Wagner’s way of saying one last goodbye.

I believe our pet animals have souls.

Many near death experiences (NDEs) include being greeted not just by family members, but also by departed pets.

Many years ago, my husband and I obtained a yellow kitten from the local animal shelter to keep his elderly mom company. His mom lived in an in-law cottage. We named the cat, Chester, who spent most of his days outdoors.

To prevent Chester from hunting birds, I attached a bell to his collar.

Chester lived to a ripe old age, and passed from natural causes. For a full week after the cat died, both my husband and I independently heard  Chester’s bell ringing outside.

I experienced a similar phenomenon with my cat, Charles Elmo.

Charles lived to be 17 years old.

When I returned home after bringing Charles to the vet to be put to sleep, I  was sitting before my desktop computer when I heard Charles’ distinctive meow.

I believe that was Charles telling me he’s okay and saying “Goodbye”.

Fabulous article.

Years ago my sister took her Cocker Spaniel to the vet. His name was Adam. The vet had to keep him for several days. She would go to visit him just before she went to work, and again after work. After several days, she recounted to me that at approximately 12 Midnight one night, she woke up from her sleep, really not knowing why she had awoken. In the morning she went to visit Adam; she recounted that the Vet tech acted very strange when she showed up that morning. What was so astonishing to her was that she said to the tech, “I am here to take Adam home.” The tech went into the back room and came out with another Vet employee, and they told her that Adam had passed away in the night. She asked what time do you estimate that Adam died, and was told that they had checked on him after 11 PM. As near as they could tell, he passed at about 12 Midnight. When she recounted this story to me, she said, she was amazed that instead of telling the Vet tech that she was there to see Adam, she told her that she was there to take him home. (He was buried in her yard.) She furthermore has always maintained thru the years, that she believed that when she woke up at 12 PM–it was Adam’s spirit that had awoken her to bid her farewell. For all of us who so dearly love our animals, it gladdens the heart to know that they still live, even though we are parted from them for a brief while.

You started this. Lump in my throat, tears welling up in my eyes.over the last year,I’ve lost four Cats I really loved, and thought I was pretty much over their losses. Then THIS. I Love the story though. It seems like our Dogs and Cats have a more pure energy, they seem more able to reach out to us one last time,or even repeatedly, after they pass, than we mere Humans. I have to believe there’s a reason for that.

I have had many after-death experiences with animals. I will list just two.

1) After my black-and-white cat Tuxedo died, my gray cat Velvet took on his personality briefly. When I used to let Tuxedo outside, he immediately walked along a little cement strip of wall on the side of the house. He would then run up the back steps and into the upper part of the garden.

Velvet, on the other hand, would always go to her favorite hydrangea bush and start eating the grass. But after Tuxedo died, his spirit inhabited Velvet for a little while, and this is how I know.

For a few weeks, when I let her out, she immediately walked along the cement strip of wall on the side of the house and then ran up the back steps into the upper garden. Eventually, Tuxedo’s spirit left for parts unknown, and Velvet went back to eating grass by the hydrangea.

2) After my cat Wanda died, her spirit inhabited my body for a little while. I could feel her living there. After a couple of weeks, I think it was, she took off for the great beyond.

Thank you Dr.E for this most inspirational post. The picture of this beautiful dog is really remarkable. I also believe that animals have souls. As has been stated previously in various posts, St. Bonaventure said that animals are “creatures without sin.” We, people, are creatures with sin. Why would Our Lord eliminate the existence of souls in creatures He has made who are without sin? In any event, your stores of Charles Elmo and Chester are wonderful.

On a television show entitled, “Project Afterlife,” a woman going through a near-death experience was sitting on a ledge which was part of a staircase which was going into heaven. She said she watched animals climb the steps, especially dogs and cats, and she indicated she felt much love in what she was observing. And Jesus did say that He would bring all creatures to Himself. Thank you dearest God for creating such incredible and holy creatures!

OY! I just saw this (b/c I only have intermittent time lately to check in to Body and Soul)…..I was very ill as a young mother of a 4-year-old boy. I had undiagnosed cytomegaly virus for a long time, finally admitted to the hospital (I had been misdiagnosed for a LONG, sick month). One fevered night I fell asleep and thought a long-passed pet dog came to me, very excited to see me….leading me into a very pretty place, trees, creeks, greenery….but my great-grandmother, who had passed away when I was 8, met me and said that I could not enter…that I had to go back….I had much work to do…….ever after, I have believed b/c of this experience that our beloved pets of the past and our beloved relatives await us….I don’t know or care if it is true or not. I just know what I experienced. And, yes, no thanks to medicine or Drs…I recovered thereafter quickly, esp. after having been ill and undiagnosed for over a month…it was a sort of “divine intervention” IMO. I recovered on my own, with no medical support for what I’d been infected with, and gradually regained my life…very healthy, in fact, within the year, gave birth to my second HEALTHY son….very risky for the pregnancy/outcome for those who experience this infection (it usually damages the fetus, who can be born alive, but not viable). For whatever reason, the “timing” of all this was “OK” for me and my son. This episode in my life is still very mysterious to me (& troublesome to remember/recount).
