Winners and losers of the 2024 election

Ben Domenech writes in The Spectator, Nov. 6, 2024:

Every election has winners and losers that extend beyond the politicians themselves, but in this particularly unique situation, the sheer number of outside individuals, movements and institutions who can be categorized as winning or losing based on last night’s sweeping result for Donald Trump and Republicans is astounding.

Winner: the bro army and its defenders. The decision to lean so hard into appealing to the American manosphere, with its testosterone-fueled UFC events and a litany of podcasts hosted by comedians with mass appeal to young men, ran the risk of turning off female voters or seeming to only prioritize the frat vote. But it proved absolutely correct — and not just the Joe Rogan interview, though that was a key step in the journey. Recognizing that young men of all ethnicities were gettable on a bigger scale than Republicans had reached in the past was a feat of genius on the part of the Trump campaign, and many politicians will learn from the strategy and try to emulate it. As other elements of communication have broken down, the world of bro podcasts is now a replacement for engaged talk radio, and a direct avenue for appealing to a disaffected portion of the electorate that appreciates respect.

Loser: the “we have nothing to offer but abortions, abortions, abortions” portion of the left. Fueled in part by their overperformance on the issue in 2022, there were many on the left who seemed only interested in hammering away on their demands for unlimited deaths for unborn infants, ignoring all other subjects along the way. The single issue abortion voter exists on both sides, but they’re only part of the coalition, and the failure of multiple ballot initiatives on the subject shows that it has lost some of its salience in the years since the shock of Dobbs. What’s more, the unwillingness on the Kamala campaign’s part to sound any moderate notes was a warning sign for religious believers. Harris plummeted in support among Catholics in part because of her insistence that Catholic hospitals, too, would be forced to perform abortions and her failure to have any note of compromise even for late-term abortions. For something that was supposed to be central to her appeal, abortion may well have cost her more than it benefited her in every swing state.

Winner: Silicon Valley. The technology kings — Elon Musk chief among them, but others as well — come out looking prescient in their treatment of the former president’s campaign. Mark Zuckerberg boosted Trump after his assassination survival, the tech investor class was emphatically on his side and Jeff Bezos’s refusal to let the Washington Post endorse in the final weeks shows they understood the moment better than others, particularly better than…

Loser: Hollywood. Celebrities totally misjudged the power of their popularity and appeal to voters. The idea that Taylor Swift would move votes in some significant way seems laughable in retrospect, as do all the other many celeb-driven attempts to impact the election for Kamala. They may like your music and stream your movies, but that doesn’t mean anyone thinks you’re in touch with who they are. And late night hosts fell into the same category — the pompous attitudes of Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel, the lectures of John Oliver and blatant spin of Saturday Night Live had no truck with the American people, who tuned them out for their comedic betters. The people who think they direct the culture, if they ever did, just don’t anymore.

Winner: Republicans who made peace with Trump, even uneven and contentious peace. Brian Kemp, Mitch McConnell, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley and yes, the king of them all, J.D. Vance all made peace with Trump after he had seemingly made himself too toxic four years ago to have a political future, and they reaped the benefit — especially Vance, who was critical of Trump even after his 2016 election and managed to go from near-NeverTrumper to the man’s vice president. Many of them had to swallow their pride to do this, but it is the only way any of them were going to find a path forward in a party coalition that is unified around Trump and his agenda for the foreseeable future. Pour one out for Mike Pence.

Loser: Liz Cheney and the neocon movement. Distinct from the Lincoln Project anti-Trump grifters, the neoconservatives — Cheney chief among them — tried to find a path toward influencing Trump in his first term, but failed to achieve the kind of power they wanted and could see Trump trending away from them steadily, firing John Bolton and ditching the generals they favored to keep him in line and away from steps like withdrawing from Afghanistan. The path forward closed for them, so Cheney, Adam Kinzinger and others joined with Democrats to instead try and exact revenge on Trump staffers through the January 6 hearings and multiple acts of lawfare, seeking ruin for their political enemies. But their decision to cross over fully into the Democrats’ coalition now leaves them holding the blame for their failure and inability to bring along Haley voters or others (under the foolhardy belief they had any coattails electorally). The lie that this was just about protecting the nation from Trump instead of score-settling was shown in Cheney and Kinzinger endorsing Democrat Colin Allred in Texas against Ted Cruz — a backing that worked out so well, Cruz beat Allred by nearly ten points.

Winner: Mark Halperin, Substack and guerrilla media generally. This was the election where outside media sources really did seem to take over the conversation regularly, driving alternate narratives about the most important stories of the day. Halperin was ahead of the curve on Joe Biden’s mental decline, Substackers repeatedly revealed embarrassing aspects of the Biden-Harris administration, and solo reporters and small entities did reporting on the economy, crime and the border that could take flight just as quickly as a legacy media piece — including exposing many aspects of the government-digital censorship approach that shocked many people with its blatant disrespect of the first amendment.

Loser: CBS News. You could put this at the feet of a number of different entities, but consider just how many botches CBS had in the closing months of the campaign — the 60 Minutes interview edit, the botched debate and shutting off of JD Vance’s mic, the hair-on-fire coverage from Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan, and of course the embarrassing fallout from the morning show interview with Ta-Nehisi Coates were all marks of a network that exposed itself as far more partisan than once thought in the course of 2024. There are a great many media losers this cycle, but CBS could be the biggest one in terms of going from a relatively inoffensive network for Republican viewers to one that is anathema.

Loser: Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. The bet they made pulling the ripcord on Joe Biden looks appallingly bad in retrospect, and revisionist history will suggest in the minds of Americans that he just wasn’t as bad as he really was in the end. Getting rid of him looks like a terrible miscalculation that, even if it couldn’t have won them the White House again, could’ve minimized the damage and perhaps kept key Senate seats such as Pennsylvania and Ohio. But the choice was made, and now it’s a legacy-defining decision for both of them.

Winner: Joe Biden. Still the only man to beat Donald Trump. Get him an extra tapioca to celebrate today with a smile.

Gonna keep your promise? Celebs who said they’d leave the US if Trump elected

Hopefully a few of them will make good on their promises to leave!

From Daily Mail:

“A host of celebrities have long been vocal in their opposition to Donald Trump taking office making some bold promises of their own along way: if Trump won, they were out.

The reactions have ranged from playful hyperbole to what sounded like solemn pledges, yet as the dust settles on another Trump election win, will the stars settle into their multimillion-dollar homes on American soil, or leave the country for good?

Following Trump’s victory, dozens of prominent names in the entertainment industry were vocal about their sadness, anger and frustration, but none appeared to be looking for their passports ahead of his upcoming term as the 47th president.

The View’s Whoopi Goldberg, a notable critic of Trump’s political career, refused to acknowledge Trump by name on Wednesday’s broadcast of the ABC chat show. ‘He’s the president,’ Goldberg said. ‘I’m still not going to say his name – that’s not going to change. In the lead-up to the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Goldberg also expressed strong opposition to Trump’s candidacy, saying on The View, ‘Maybe it’s time for me to move, you know. I can afford to go.’

Cher she had more cosmic aspirations: In June 2015, she tweeted, ‘If he were to be elected, I’m moving to Jupiter,’ but did not appear to have relocated in the years following, in which Trump was elected to office and served.

Cher in October 2023 told The Guardian that she suffered health issues as result of Trump’s previous term, and said this time she was determined to relocate from the U.S. under Trump’s leadership. ‘I almost got an ulcer the last time,’ said Cher. ‘If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave.’ (As of Wednesday evening, Cher had not said anything since Trump’s election on her social media platforms in regards to her plans.)

Girls creator Lena Dunham told an audience in 2016 that she would ‘100 percent move to Canada’ while appearing at the Matrix Awards in April of 2016 in New York City, the CBC reported.  She said: ‘I know a lot of people have been threatening to do this, but I really will … I know a lovely place in Vancouver and I can get my work done from there.’ Her sincerity seemed real at the time, yet Dunham is still very much in the United States, continuing her work in entertainment and advocacy.

Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston said in a late 2016 interview with The Bestseller Experiment podcast, declaring he ‘would definitely move’ to Vancouver, British Columbia if Trump defeated Clinton. ‘It’s not real to me that that would happen. I hope to God it won’t. It wouldn’t be a vacation. I’d be an expatriate.’ After Trump was elected, Cranston, who publicly endorsed Harris, walked back his statement on Twitter.”

Don’t hold your breath that any of ’em will actually move.

They have more fun with their temper trantums.

Election Day 2024: Pray for minimal shenanigans

The big day is here, folks. Time to take America back from the commies!

Pray that #thesteal will not happen again. There have already been shenanigans with ballots/voting happening in Fulton County (GA), Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, and Colorado. Shocker, not.

Never underestimate the crookedness of the the left to hold on to their power.

Get out and vote today! And pray that a Trump win is too big to rig.

DCG

Stop the 2024 steal: Vote in-person if you can!

Demorats are getting nervous. With November 5 coming soon and Kamala trailing, they are getting desperate. Check out what’s already happening:

In Clark County, Washington (and Oregon) drop off ballots boxes are being ignited:

In Virginia Gov. Youngkin is having to go to the SCOTUS to remove noncitizens from their voter roll:

Virginia asks US Supreme Court to block order to reverse voter purge

From the story: “A federal appeals court upheld a judge’s order for Virginia to temporarily halt its process to find registered voters suspected of being noncitizens — which recently changed under an executive order from Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) — and restore the roughly 1,600 registrations canceled since Aug. 7.”

In Nevada:

Nevada Supreme Court Rules Mail-In Ballots without Postmarks Can Be Counted Three Days After Election

From the story: “Nevada’s Supreme Court on Monday ruled mail-in ballots without postmarks can be counted three days after Election Day. Nevada state law allows mail-in ballots with postmarks to be counted up to four days after Election Day. The Nevada Supreme Court on Monday ruled mail-in ballots with postmarks can be counted up to 4 days after the election and non-postmarked ballots can be counted up to 3 days after the election.”

Plenty of time for some un-postmarked, “mail-in” ballots to be dumped in the middle of the night.

The only way for Trump to win is to make his win “too big to rig.”

Vote in-person on November 5 if you can, especially if you live in a blue state. At this point, we cannot trust any blue state election process.

Priorities for NYC democrats: Wigs, prosthetic penises and breasts for “trans” prisoners

New York City is having all kinds of problems due to democrats being in charge and their importing illegal aliens.

The New York Post reported last week that migrants are flooding the city’s justice system and they now make up 75% of arrests in midtown.

Seven months ago it was reported that a NYC neighborhood was turned into a giant toilet as migrants litter a park with poop and leave cups of urine on doorsteps.

Last June I reported on a townhall meeting with New York City Councilmember Crystal Hudson where residents were furious over crime occurring outside of a illegal alien shelter housing 3,000 men. At the time, Hudson blamed the mayor for a lack of support in dealing with the migrant crisis.

Councilmember Hudson prioritizing the mentally ill.

But don’t worry New York, Hudson is on top of the “migrant crisis” now. Her latest bill:

Trans prisoners to get wigs, prosthetic penises and breasts under Democrat bill

From The Daily Mail:

“Trans prisoners in New York City will have access to ‘gender-affirming’ devices such as prosthetic penises and breasts under a new bill proposed by a Democratic lawmaker.

Councilwoman Crystal Hudson’s bill would also give guards at NYC prisons access to items like breast binders, wigs and tucking undergarments, as first reported by the New York Post. Hudson is expected to introduce the bill during Thursdays city council meeting.

The legislation is backed by fellow Democratic councilmembers Farah N. Louis, Chi A. Ossé.

‘This bill would establish a process for people in custody to obtain wigs, hair extensions, chest binders, tucking undergarments or gaffs, prosthetics, or other similar items or medical devices that are used by individuals to affirm their self-determined gender identity,’ according to the NYC Council website.

‘The bill also requires Department of Correction staff to have access to gender-affirming items or medical devices while at work.’ According to the bill, it would be up to the NYC Department of Correction to decide who foots the bill for the gender-affirming care.”

Good job New Yorkers in electing Hudson. You can safely sleep at night knowing that illegal aliens and trans people are being coddled with your tax dollars.

ESPN fires woman who speaks truth

Sam Ponder: Standing up for women’s sports.

ESPN, owned by the ultra-woke Walt Disney Company, hates women. And truth.

Yesterday, ESPN fired anchor Sam Ponder in order to “cut significant costs.”

The real reason Sam was probably let go is because she has the audacity to call out the inclusion of “trans women,” aka men, being allowed to play in women’s sports.

According to Outkick, Sam was the only woman at ESPN who defended women’s sports. From their article:

“Ponder had emerged as the only female voice inside Disney since Sage Steele’s departure to speak out against “trans women” (as in men) competing in women’s sports.

Most recently, Ponder posted “XY= male XX= female” in response to the International Olympic Committee permitting Imane Khelif, who has XY chromosomes, to box against women in the 2024 Olympics.

Ponder first commented on the issue in May 2023, reminding her followers that it is “not hateful to demand fairness in sports for girls.”

“I barely said anything publicly abt this issue & I’ve had so many ppl msg me, stop me in the street to say thank you+ tell me stories abt girls who are afraid to speak up for fear of lost employment/being called hateful,” Ponder added.”

Read their whole article here.

Of course Sam has been called a “bigot” for her opinion that biological men do not belong in women’s sports. She’s also a Christian. Kudos to her for speaking the truth.

It is not bigoted to demand that women’s sports remain a women-only space.

Yet we don’t live in normal times right now.  It’s like we are living in “Nineteen Eighty-Four.”

“It’s the economy, stupid”

Truer words were never spoken when it comes to elections.

The media is working overtime to gaslight the people into voting for the “chosen one,” Kamala Harris, by claiming the U.S. is not in a recession.

Yesterday the stock market took a hard punch. It fell by 2%, the worst drop since 2022. If you want to keep your blood pressure normal, don’t check your 401(k) and investment account balances right now.

Intel announced on Friday that it was laying off 15% of its workforce. This comes months after the Biden administration gave Intel $8.5 billion in grants to help bring back chipmaking to the U.S. Great job, Biden, by “spurring processor manufacturing in the US.”

Within the past year Nike has laid off 5% of their workforce. This combined with Intel’s layoffs, was a hard hit for the progressive-run state of Oregon.

Last September I wrote about CVS closing 900 stores noting that America is in decline, particularly in democrat-run cities. As a result, our nation is (still) facing the following:

  • Increased inflation
  • Increased debt (both for the nation and many individual households)
  • Increased crime with soft-on-punishment policies
  • Open borders with thousands of illegal aliens arriving daily as well as drugs (particularly fentanyl) pouring into our cities

If you think things will get better with the new Harris/Walz ticket, think again. Tim Walz is a hardcore leftist who recently stated on a “White Dudes for Harris” get-together: “One person’s socialism is another person’s neighborliness.”

A preview of our economy and the US under this “progressive” ticket of Harris and Walz:

All of it, up in flames.
