Progressive policies in action: Seattle Police won’t respond to alarm calls without “supporting evidence”

5/5 - (2 votes)

Thanks to the liberals’ “Defund the Police” movement in 2020 and BLM’s campaign to disparage police, the Seattle Police Department has lost more than 700 officers in the past five years and is at its lowest staffing level since the 1990s.

The consequences of this? From Fox 13 Seattle:

Seattle Police: Officers won’t respond to burglary alarm calls without evidence

From the article:

“A triggered alarm system at a property in Seattle will soon require more information to get an officer’s attention. Seattle Police Department (SPD) announced a new policy for responding to alarm calls.

SPD’s interim police chief, Sue Rahr, announced the updated standards in a letter dated Sept. 13. She wrote that, beginning Oct. 1, “SPD will only dispatch officers to calls from alarm companies with supporting evidence, such as audio, video, panic alarms or eyewitness evidence that a person is illegally entering or attempting to enter a residence or commercial property.”

“The challenge with that is it’s only two weeks’ notice. We have to notify all of our customers, we have to change how we monitor those alarms, we have to change dispatchers on how they respond to alarms in Seattle,” said Woodman. “We’ve been told that [SPD] has been working on this for eight months, but they never reached out to the industry or the monitoring companies. So, we are asking that they now work with us and just give us some more time.”

Woodman and others from Washington Alarm gave public comment on Tuesday during Seattle City Council’s Public Safety Committee meeting and full council meeting. They voiced their concerns, not only about the short notice from SPD, but also the impact on customers who don’t have audio or visual capabilities on their systems.

“Law enforcement and the security industry can work together to come up with a solution that benefits our customers in a way that doesn’t leave them stranded and vulnerable at the most dangerous moment,” said Ashley Barber of Washington Alarm.

“Our fear is that the business owner or building owner is going to go down to that building and see what is going on. And with no police there, we could potentially be in a dire situation if there’s actual criminal activity going on at the property and they don’t have police to back them up,” said Woodman. “Other cities that have done this [have seen] the crime has gone up. And we certainly already have an issue in the city of Seattle with crime, and we would not want to see crime go up.”

Yeah, don’t hold your breath waiting for the police in Seattle to back you up. That isn’t how most of us roll:

Alas, in demorat-run Seattle your options are limited. They never learn, do they?

So now, in Seattle….you have to have a “file” of reasons to call for police assistance before a panic call? You have to have a multitude of modern home protection devices to show that you have a concern enough to call the police? Encountering all this BS through the last decade, I can’t help thinking always about my beloved Grandmothers’ abilities/non-abilities to deal with this sort of red tape/BS/burden to their safety. It’s a blatant disregard for the safety/well-being of our seniors who did not grow up with, do not own these modern accesses to services of every type, including police protection from harm.

This is like going to the DMV in CA where I tried to get an “official or REAL” ID/license so I can get on a plane. I took my license retest and passed, but could “only” get a “regular” license b/c the stupid CA DMV agent did not RECOGNIZE an official marriage certificate issued by the the STATE of VA….as “official” and said I had to bring back a bureau of vital statistics…WHAT? Same thing…..What an ass….now, as I see it, I have to go get a passport, where they will recognize my official State of VA marriage license. OMG….NO ILLEGAL IN THIS COUNTRY HAS TO DO WHAT I”M REQUIRED TO DO. I realize that I’m “shouting.”

Speaking of non-response–did you all see that there is no $ for NC/GA/East Tenn people lost, dead, cut off, failed by the feds in this last hurricane?. FEMA is broke due to stealing from it to supply illegals the equivalent of $13,000 each & ongoing in cash, housing, services, transportation..etc. NOTHING LEFT IN MOTHER HUBBARD’S CUPBOARD for US Citizens. My brother-in-law fr Western VA sent a “joke” that said, if we renamed NC “Ukraine,” they would be receiving billions of aide/equipment in a heartbeat. I’m sure the citizens in this crisis feel this way by now. I learned there is a private pack-mule team literally packing-in food, medical supplies, diapers, etc…to the remote towns/villages cut off by the floods that took their homes, possessions, vehicles,& roads away. How sad that the “mighty” US Govt has failed so poorly with it’s tax-paying citizens, it’s manpower and air equipment, that, like Afghanistan, it just walks away & turns it’s back to “greener pastures.” I hope people remember on election day if they want to vote for another Biden-Harris 4 yrs that, you can change CLOWNS, but you STILL get the circus 🙁 Also hope Republicans figure out how to get these votes collected/ delivered for counting. This is freakin’ worse than COVID for this area, which is a huge RED part of the state, needed to win by electoral vote, & here they are underwater, homeless, suffering. Do you think the Dems will care enough to help them vote. HA! Do you think the Republicans can organize and marshall the way to do it? Not well known for this…so this is “iffy,” too.
