This is the stuff of nightmares.
I wonder if this bat was the inspiration for Bram Stoker‘s 1897 horror novel Dracula.
Remember when I told y'all about the Philippines having human-sized bats? Yeah, this was what I was talking about pic.twitter.com/nTVIMzidbC

The giant golden-crowned flying fox (Acerodon jubatus), also known as the golden-capped fruit bat, is a species of mega-bat endemic to the Philippines and one of the largest bat species in the world. It has a wingspan of 4.9–5.6 ft., the longest forearm length of any bat species, measuring up to 8.5 in., and is among the heaviest of all bat species, with individuals weighing up to 3.1 lb.

I would not wish to see one of these bats up close and personal. That would just set off my “creepy factor.” I was very happy to read that they can weigh up to 3 plus pounds. At first I was thinking . . . wow, a bat the size of a human, and perhaps weighing what a human weighs.
This is really a very unique article, I certainly did not know that bats grew this large.
That’s a big bat.
No way I wanna run into one of those!
Geez Louizeeeee…maybe there is a version of this in WVA that people have seen and described as “the mothman.” ?? Had no idea this bat existed. I guess much is possible that we don’t expect.
Good Lord!
Wow! Fascinating!
Endemic to the Philippines . Weighs up to 3.1 lbs. Very interesting article. Thank you!
