This seems to be the season for phone scams.
Yesterday, I posted a warning about a phone scam saying that Social Security is “taking legal action” against you for fraudulent Social Security claims.
This afternoon, I got another scam phone call, with a caller ID of (915) 200-3915. A recording said that a charge of more than $900 was made to my Amazon.com account and that I should call the (915) number if I had not made the purchase.
I immediately hung up, went online to my Amazon account and saw that no such charge had been made to my account.
The advice from Amazon is to report the scam phone call to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Go here.
If you got a scam or phishing Amazon email, or landed on a suspicious webpage, report it to Amazon:
- Open a new email and attach the email you suspect is fake. For suspicious webpages, copy & paste the link into the email body.If you can’t send the email as an attachment, forward it.
- Send the email to [email protected]Note: Sending the suspicious email as an attachment is the best way for Amazon to track it.

I have had so many emails, supposedly from “Amazon” telling me that there is some “problem” with my account. I always just mark them as “phishing” and block. I am so glad to have the email address from Amazon so that I can actually forward these to them to deal with. This is a wonderful article, not only to be used as a warning, but to possibly help us to remedy the problem. God Bless you for this much needed information!
Thank you Dr. E for the notification and helpful instructions.
I get calls from a 915 number about once a week. Never answer ’em. Now I know what it’s all about.
I don’t pick up calls for which I have no identified caller. I don’t open emails for which I have no business or no known contact …I don’t open emails I can’t identify, nor even ones that don’t give me an identity to which I relate (like, your recent order has been sent & here is your shipping info…etc & the like).
When you had to use phone numbers to sign up for a jackpot “drawing” at the mall or some place, my sons and I delighted in signing in as “Jim Morrison.” It was SPORT. We signed up for everything. When they called our house later, as they always did, for years on end, and asked for Jim Morrison….we’d blithely say “Hey Man….Jim Morrison is dead. He died in ’71 & is buried in Paris. Sorry dude.”
When it’s a caller whose number I don’t recognize, I pick up the phone but not answer, with only silence. The caller either (1) hangs up without saying anything, or (2) a recording is activated as in the fake Amazon and Social Security calls, or (3) in the case of a legit call, the caller says hello?? in a puzzled voice, at which point I answer.
Very good tactic!
