Sennacherib was, by all definitions, a monster
He came threatening death and destruction on Jerusalem when Hezekiah was king and Isaiah the chief prophet. His reputation was so horrible that he rivals the infamous Vlad the Impaler.
He lacked the redeeming features of Nebuchadnezzar, who was arguably converted to faith through the witness of Daniel.
Sennacherib’s big mistake was to completely insult the Lord of Hosts (Lord of heaven’s Armies), and not just the Lord’s followers in Judah. The end result was that Sennacherib’s general and Sennacherib himself were compelled to return to their country, where each of them were quickly assassinated. And their standing army of 185,000 soldiers who were camped outside of Jerusalem was exterminated in one night by just one of God’s angels.
Note to America in 2026
Although we see many victories under the Trump administration, there also comes into view the nature and power of our enemies. We are weak due to the fact that there is no permanence to our current president. The Iranians and others, after astounding military defeats at the hands of American forces, are keenly aware of the ticking clock on our elected offices. Iran continues peace talks, but seems to be actually stalling negotiations. It’s like a sports team stalling to let the clock run out on a time limited game.
And the question of the identities of our true enemies nags us constantly. Who are they? Are they the international banksters? Are they the Democrats and Rino Republicans? Are they the the Senior Executive Service, or the CIA, FBI, NSA? Are they Marx or Mohamed? Are they the rogue educators, or the media? Are they the “tech giants?”
The imperfect answer seems to be, partly, all of the above.
So, a man or woman could lose hope at a time like this. And THAT is exactly the message of the battle against Sennacherib.
Hezekiah and Isaiah sought the Lord when the black threat closed over them. God listened, and made the fight personal. He encouraged the king and the citizens of Jerusalem. And then immediately took action against His personal enemies.
The mysterious and shrouded enemies we face today have also insulted the Captain of the Lord’s armies. They have unmasked themselves in recent months and are openly defying Heaven itself, and not just America. As CS Lewis said, “They have brought down deep heaven on their heads.”
The fact that our current president is out of office in a couple of years is not a problem. Our strength and power are in the Lord Himself.
Now, I am not speaking for all Americans, but for those who are known by His name, who have humbled ourselves, turned from our sins, and sought His face.
Through Jesus Christ, God has become our strong tower.
Think about it.

This really makes sense.
