Thank you. I needed this. I’ve just now (7 wks b/f the end of school and in the throes of the Newsom recall–who knew?) gone back to teaching from all virtual/distance of over a year and a half via computer to hybrid, which means I have 3 groups…A on campus, B on campus, the both of them 5 classes one or the other, and all virtual all the time for all classes. This means I have 3 groups to teach, divided between a year-long advanced elective class, a semester intermediate elective class, and 3-12-week trimester beginner elective classes…PLUS….everyone is ALL VIRTUAL on Wednesdays…..you would NOT BELIEVE my schedule…I have to keep hour by hour notes so I know who is doing what and when…..Even so, sometimes either I get mixed up, or the kids do. We’re just rolling with it. Meanwhile, a little levity is much appreciated. Personally, when I open my pool soon, I think I’ll wear even THREE swimsuits so I can pee in my pool safely according to the Great Fauci….b/c once I get in the pool and away from my distance-teaching computer, I might never get out again to rejoin the “real world.”

You are a Saint. Although I do not live in California–I have no doubt that you are greatly appreciated by the parents of your students. I am so glad that Newsome is up for recall–he is nothing short of a “jive turkey.” Just an entitled, wealthy, elite class jerk. Let his recall be a lesson to all other Governors who feel they are above those who pay their salaries. Now, if us Oregonians could only dump Kate Brown–we tried but came up short on signatures.

I have to wonder how they’d enforce the pool issue-I don’t think the drones the Pool Cops use are set up for THAT yet. If they want to rely on the “Honor System”, I’m afraid I’d have to afford the same degree of “Honor” they’ve afforded me in the past year and a half-that is NONE. Good seeing you again, Calgirl!

Thank you DCG for this funny post! My favorite one is Dr. Fauci’s swimsuit suggestion. Sounds like him!

Just saw replies to my post. Thanks all whom I’ve missed much. I’ve been a captive of Covid distance teaching for a long time…sometimes 10-14 hrs/day or more online–& have fallen asleep more times than I know on my keyboard (b/c my husband then puts me to bed) b/c I’ve not only had to teach via computer, had to attend tons of zoom instructions from my district to keep my own zoom & Canvas lessons current with changes….but have had to maintain a full-on Canvas course. I am an art teacher. I do not have a textbook where I can say, “turn to page 30 and do it.” Every lesson, I reinvent the wheel and publish it to my Canvas course, then I teach it during my distance classes with screen shares, on-camera instructions, and so on. That’s the bad news. The good new is…I also save the Canvas course to my “cloud” and have saved it also to an external (portable)drive. I’ll have a yr of beginner, intermediate, & advanced lessons forever…to reuse en toto, plumb for single lessons & examples, etc…so much easier than carting around my milk carton files of lessons. Also—very demoralizing to hear TV “fake news” say that online teachers “do nothing.”
