😢 Nobody could stay mad at a face like that, no matter how guilty he was!

OMG….crying (happy tears) to see this dog again…..we had to put down our own nearly twin of Denver, a rescue Blonde, pink-nosed, chubby, Lab, Maggie, in Oct., 2020 due to cancer. She was a “Mother Earth” nurturer, mothering litters of rescue kittens.

She would have totally eaten cat treats, and did on occasion. We ignored this/didn’t care. She was a discarded breeder Lab. She could do “whatever” and it was ‘ok.’ Loved her and her love of us and her “mothered babies” of any species & others so much that nothing else mattered…We had her 8 of her 12 years, and wish we’d had all 12……or more… We are presently “dogless” & have to “find” a dog who loves our cats and us with the same acceptability/if not same intensity.

Calgirl . . . So sorry that you lost your wonderful dog. No matter what other dogs or cats come along–each is unique in their own right. There is no replacing one wonderful fur baby with another. It has been almost a year since I had my cat put down; she was just so sick. Although I am a “dog lover,” I took her in as an abandoned baby. I do so much miss her climbing up on my bed, and coming over to settle herself by my side, with her head on my chest. How strange, just this morning as I was waking up, I though I heard her. But then, I knew that could not be. I am so glad that we have the assurance that we will one day be reunited with our lost pets.

It really is remarkable how expressive dogs’ eyes are.

DrE . . . You are absolutely correct. Their eyes are so full of expression. My very first pet, Tiffany, a Maltese left this life in 1983. Although it may seem pretty darn weird, I had had a picture taken of her (Oh! yes, I got ropped into one of those cheap “we’ll take a picture of you for really cheap. Just bring some things that are unique to you–so I brought her along. Of all the shots he took, the only ones I wanted were of her. He caught her as she was swinging her head around to see what the noise was that he was making.) It has been 38 years since she left, but I never tire of looking at her with those beautiful soft brown eyes. I plan on keeping that portrait on my walls until I leave this Earth. It gives me joy to just look at her and see that sweet expression.

To all of you who related to my remembrance of my Maggie May, our Mother Earth Blonde Lab Retriever whom we lost recently… so many thanks for sharing your memories of your beloved pets……who were more than “just” cats & dogs in your everyday household….but the ones who greeted you everyday like you were the best thing since sliced bread was invented …who loved you dearly all over you when you came back home from a 10 minute trip or a 10-day trip, no difference…& whom shared your quiet, loving hours at home, a barrier to whatever craziness was going out there in the “real world.” This is why, even after the heartache of losing a beloved pet/family member, I still go back for more—but never without a constant remembrance of those whom went before. They are always in my heart…&, yes, there are sometimes when I almost see them “there” again out of the corner of my eye….or “see” them in a familiar place , or sometimes feel like I’ve gotten a “secret” unexpected “message” from one of them…LIKE—-my husband on a solo walk in the dark one night saw something gleam in the dirt in our unpaved rural street berm…& bent down to pick it up, & it was the dog tag of one of our sweet dogs whom we lost some time ago. She was a large breed/mix age 14, & all of her body systems were in GREAT shape….but she had spinal stenosis & could no longer walk. It was so hard to let her go. We don’t know how or when she lost her tag….but there it was, years after her passing, shining in the night, in the dirt for my husband to see and find…..We knew she was still with us at that moment & had said “hello again” to us.
