It’s wonderful the dogs were saved, but sad the male Rottweiler passed on. I will never understand why some people leave pets behind in disaster situations when advanced warning has been given.
Thank you greenworxx for that comment. As I pondered it, and thought back on the precious pets I had, who have now passed on–there is no way in H**** that I would have left them behind to face “who knows what!” I hope these beautiful dogs are not given back to the original owners, and that they are all placed with responsible pet owners. Frankly, when I think of what kind of horror these innocent animals could have faced, and factoring in the loss of the male dog–it just seems so abhorrent to me. If you had warning, yet you failed to protect these animals by getting them to safety before the inferno hit–you are really just a POS!

Saw this on our news. So thankful for those who will pay attention and respond in the middle of a conflagration.
Greenworxx, please reconsider judging b/c I know you must be a gentle soul at heart by your reply: ….I live in So CA in a HUGE fire (& quake) zone. We only have MINUTES given us to evacuate in an oncoming fire. I MEAN LIKE IMMEDIATE. That’s what “advanced warning” is here. We try to plan ahead for our pets, but it’s mostly NOT an option if you have more than one or 2 to round up, cage, transport…..What I saw on this latest Rottweiler saving was exactly what my husband & I have had to plan: get what you can…who you can….get into 2 cars..one each, with a planned meet-up…and if you don’t have time to get everyone out, open the doors of the house…put everyone/ every other being loose, and hope that they can be rescued as they run away…or that you can locate them later if they survived by running away. If you’ve never lived in the path of a DRY EARTH CA Fire, please don’t judge what these owners had to do. It was they who gave the last approximate location to this mama dog and her babies to the firemen/ rescuers. I know that they did what I would have to do in the face of this situation & these awful & “snap” calculations & choices. I cried when I saw this rescue b/c I KNEW that I could be in the SAME place one day. The only way I can “escape” this eventuality here in So CA is to get out somehow.
Ca;Girl–Thank you for adding greater insight to this kind of calamity. I was originally thinking that these individuals had hours of warning, as opposed to minutes. I must confess, when you do not live in an area where you are faced with this kind of emergency, it is easy to jump to the conclusion of the pet owners being neglectful of their animals. I guess I was overwhelmed by the emotions of “what if this was my beloved Tiffany, or Ebony, or Buster, or Sissy, or Baby” and it was painful to contemplate what terror they might have experienced in an instance such as this. I am just grateful that in hindsight, so many of these animals were saved due to the diligence of this one man. Thank you so much for sharing your first hand knowledge of situations such as this.
xxoo Gracie. Thank you for understanding our situation here in So CA fire zones…I constantly pray that I am not in this situation, but I know that the possibility is always there, every day and I am never going to be in control or totally prepared/able to respond 100%. If called upon, I will not be 100% successful. I will lose 100% of my belongings/ lifetime against the fire if it comes my way. It’s that fast. I can only hope to save as many of my pet and human lives as depend upon me. That is my goal. I will do it anyway that I can. I want to Praise God and also Praise the flying tankers and helicopters who have defended us during firestorms. We live on one of the only natural lakes in So CA…so, thankfully, water-scooping tanker airplanes and helicopters can fight our local fires, which also usually involve a National Forest on the edge of our lake, so we are covered by local, state and national firefighters, as well as air tankers from state and federal agencies. Otherwise, we’d maybe burn down once a year like Paradise, CA did in recent past. Awful….
