Thank you Dr.E for this funny post. These dogs were ingenious trying to determine how to get down the stairs. I love the St. Bernard and the black lab who figured out going sideways was the most efficient way.
That was just hilarious! I was dumbfounded by the little guy who went down the stairs, only using his two front legs. Was also puzzled by the several dogs who had to climb the stairs backwards. Wonderful collection of film snippets.
I laughed about the one who went down part way and decided, “Screw it!” and jumped to the bottom. Not sure WHAT to make of the ones who went up backwards or sideways, but I think THEY are higher functioning than we realize. That was some “creative thinking” there.
If you have big breed puppies, they shouldn’t be allowed on stairs until they can easily manage them. They can develop bone problems if they are too young due to their large size and weak bones and muscles when they are young.
The one dog going up sideways/backwards is funny!
The dogs sliding down the stairs don’t have any problems – they’re just having fun!

Thank you. Belly laughs 🙂 So reminded me of our last (now dear-departed) rescue, a Blonde Lab, who, when I went to get her at the rescue, did not know how to get into a car. She was NOT reluctant, or scared, she just didn’t know. For a long time, it took at 2 people to teach her into a car to go anywhere (a BIG girl, having been used as a “breeder” and discarded). She’d never had a “normal dog life before, nor trained to do things in a family life indoors or in the car. I have a picture of her the first time she “discovered the couch,” which was about a year after we adopted her. With time, she turned into a big cuddle bug, known and loved throughout our neighborhood. Even at an older age (4-5 when we got her), she learned our human ways & how to navigate our universe 🙂
