Hormone replacement therapy raises dementia risk after 5 years

Some women are prescribed hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in the form of tablets, gels, creams or patches. to ease menopausal symptoms like hot flashes and mood swings, and to reduce post-menopausal risks of heart disease and osteoporosis.

However, not only is HRT associated with an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer, a new Oxford University study of more than 600,000 women found that the most common form of HRT (estrogen-progesteron hormones) for an extended period of time (more than 5 years) increases the risk of senile dementia by as much as 11% to 19%.

The Telegraph reports, Sept. 30, 2021:

The new study by the Universities of Oxford, Southampton and Nottingham published in BMJ is one of the largest, involving more than 600,000 women. It found that being on HRT for up to five years did not increase the risk of dementia….

However, the study found that staying on oestrogen-progesterone therapy for five to nine years increased the risk of Alzheimer’s disease by 11 per cent, while staying on it for more than a decade increased the risk by 19 per cent….

Researchers compared 118,501 women aged 55 and older diagnosed with dementia between 1998 and 2020 with 497,416 women of the same age without the condition.

In each of the groups, 14 per cent of women used HRT for more than three years….

Another less common type of HRT was associated with a lower risk of dementia.

Oestrogen-only therapy was linked to 15 per cent decreased odds of dementia overall among women younger than 80 who received treatment for at least a decade, with a 1.1 per cent decrease in risk for each year of treatment.

My first thought after reading this article was . . . perhaps this does show that God has infinite wisdom and we mere mortals needs to stop tinkering with the plan that He laid out. We were intended to age, and that includes all the symptoms that go along with aging.

Thank you Dr.E for this most important post. I hope those women who have experienced this “therapy” will think twice..

Just MHO, but after COVID, Dr. Fauci, CDC, & all conflicting data/studies coming out of lock-down, masking, quarantining countries or even states in the US vs. the countries & US states that did NOT do any of all that,(with NO appreciable difference betw them for data on Covid occurrence or death rates) I’m having trouble believing ANYTHING that comes out of “health & science” studies anymore. Remember when they told us to not eat eggs or butter or whole fat milk/yogurt, etc? All WRONG…years & years of WRONG. The “substitute oils & oleos & reduced-everything was of no good & sometimes WORSE for us w/extra sugars, salts, additives, preservative, saturated oils. Grew up w/grandparent’s dairy farm…..butter, cream, unpasteurized milk, eggs galore, lard for baking and cooking….nothing ARTIFICIAL or man-made at all. Never saw a loaf of “store-bought” bread until I started school (first grade…no kinder where I lived)….probably never ate store-bought meat of any kind until I was married & had to provide that for myself from a grocery. Home-grown vegetables and fruits. Nothing fancy…but all came from where we saw it grown or produced, & never was touched by any other hand. I surely appreciate modernization that makes our lives and health better….but when it comes to the big business of mass food and drug production & marketing….I am very cautious.

Calgirl . . . Oh! How I wish we could transport ourselves back to the day and time you described knowing as a child. I whole heartedly agree–I no longer have faith in the “scientists” who lead us astray regarding eggs, butter, etc. When one year something is labeled as “poison” and then along comes studies that debunk that label. If we look at the fact that humans lived and thrived for thousands of years on a “farm grown” diet, then there had to be a divine plan in place to provide for the the nutritional needs of God’s children who came to Earth. So much for all the substitutes that these informed scientists want to foist off on us!
