OMG. I Identify. Why do my cats follow me into the bathroom? I remember with fondness the first cat my husband & I adopted (she lived nearly 19 yrs & raised our kids). From day one until her end of days, she followed me into the bathroom &, when I got into the tub, she sat on the edge & cried & reached out to touch me as if saying, “What are you thinking? Get out of the water, get out now!!!” Now, I have the opposite—-2 cats who LOVE to play in the water: Turn the faucet on, & they are there in a flash to “bat” at the water stream/play in the water…..
I think your 19 y.o. kitty appointed herself your body guard and was protecting you. Precious creatures, all.
