Such innocence, purity, holiness, and love.
Thank you, Grif, for this reminder in the evil times we find ourselves in.

That was beyond wonderful to watch. I was absolutely amazed by the dog who “covered up the infant with the blanket.” That was beyond anything that I would expect of a dog. What a delightful compilation of snippets of babies and dogs. Thank you for starting off my day just right!

Reminded me of the people we got our Dog Hercules from..Part of why we chose this particular Dog was when I was visiting a friend regarding a motorcycle part he had that I needed. I was surprised to see this young Rottweiler/Doberman/Malamute/Wolf (I found out later),about 3 years old, being walked across the backyard by their 3 year old son,who had ahold of the Dog’s right ear. That was the boy’s only leash, and the Dog was totally compliant. The boy stops, the Dog stops. The boy turns around, the Dog walks around the boy and goes the same way. I thought that was so cool! I asked the boy’s Dad how long it took to train the Dog to do that, and he said, “Well,I never trained him to do anything,he just started doing that one day.”
I heard a month or so later somebody tried to abduct that boy from their front yard, and the Dog grabbed the guy’s arm,the guy let go of the boy,and the Dog held the guy, bent over the three foot chain link fence, until the boy’s Dad heard all the growling and called the Sheriff, and a Deputy arrived. The Dog didn’t let the guy go until the Deputy had the guys free hand cuffed. I knew then that this Dog was something special,so a couple of months later, when we’d moved to a place where we could have a Dog,we went over and got our Dog,the Mighty Hercules. You’d think a Dog with that lineage would have a mean streak as wide as Colorado, but there wasn’t a mean bone in his body,UNLESS somebody tried to harm his family. Even then,he wasn’t a killer-he stopped trouble, that was all. He wouldn’t make MORE trouble. And it was ALL NATURAL. He was never TAUGHT anything. He just knew. GREAT Dog-I sure miss him.
I love your stories Truck…thank you. Our first dog as a couple was a little Dachshund /Beagle mix who was loving, fearless, talented, and could find his way to where we were come hell or highwater. My grandfather accurately described him as “a dog put together by a committee” in the way he looked. He was not pretty. But, he was ours, and we loved him. Once we walked to a nearby grocery and allowed him out into the fenced backyard of our apartment while we shopped….we were only going to be gone “a minute” (believe me…back then, our weekly grocery limit was in the $10 range). But, meanwhile, it started to rain, so he took off…out of the fenced yard somehow, and crossed many busy roads, a mess of railroad lines, and showed up, barking to get in, at my mother’s home some miles away, barking to be let in to her house! He knew if we were not homme….we might be there! When we moved later to an even less savory low-rent part of town, he once charged/interfered with a home invasion and assault in the apartment above us. We heard the screams above us, opened our door and let him loose (he’d been growling since hearing the first footsteps in the public hallway (how do they know?)…..and he attacked, chased, and cornered the “perp” in a bush about a block away….where police apprehended him….I’d tell you his name, but, since we got him while students & newlyweds in Virginia, we named him after a Southern military general. Afraid if I spell it out here, this whole end of the universe will be canceled out, to include this site.
Adorable!
