Ever see a dog fly or climb a wall? Meet the amazing Belgian Malinois

These dogs are Belgian Shepherds – specifically the Malinois breed.

Belgian Shepherds are known to be highly intelligent, alert and sensitive; they are typically highly trainable, with a strong guarding instinct. Hence many are desired for home protection and they are very well suited for security services.

While achieving great jumps they appear to be flying! Check ’em out:

Dog rescues another dog from drowning in swimming pool

Fox News reported this story that occured in South Africa.

Homeowners came home to find their “Chuky” with a wet head. They watched their security camera and soon discovered the cause.

Chuky mistakenly walked into a pool and couldn’t get out. Another dog, Jessie, happened by and came to Chuky’s rescue.

Apparently it took Jessie 34 minutes to pull Chuky out of the water because of the wet dog hair. But Jessie didn’t give up! Watch:

We need good news: Police officers save choking babies

Police officers respond to many different types of calls. Probably the most rewarding for them is being able to save a child’s life.

The Shoebill Stork: A bizarre creature…

I stumbled upon this creature last night on Twitter: The Shoebill Stork.

The Shoebill is a strange-looking bird, kind of prehistoric looking. They live in tropical areas and are largely found in Africa.

This creature is very odd. Some fun facts about Shoebills:

  • They decapitate their prey with the tips of the very sharp beaks.
  • The Shoebill’s feet are like dinasours.
  • They make sounds similar to machine guns.
  • This bird prefers not to fly.
  • The Shoebill cools down using its own poop!

See them in action:

Such a strange bird, right?

What to do with a backyard bunny rabbit nest

Yesterday I saw a post on my local city animal welfare Facebook page advising us to check for bunny nests before we start mowing. Bunny nests look like dead grass piles (see above) yet are the perfect home for their babies!

Rabbits build their baby nests with dead grass and their fur. Read more about these nests here. Or watch this video:

We have LOTS of cottontails in Oklahoma yet I’ve never come across a bunny nest while we’ve lived here. I hope to find one some day!

Now that spring is upon us, it’s a good reminder to check for bunnies before you mow!
